WHAT IS BEYOND RANGOON PROJECT?
Beyond Rangoon Project is a non-profit community project formed in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis in May 2008 to assist rural areas outside of Rangoon that are getting no assistance or relief supplies. The official relief effort has thus far focused on cities and large towns, and many of the villagers are completely cut off from any assistance. With the help of generous donors both inside and outside the country, we have been able to organize over 10 relief convoys so far to different villages in Irrawaddy and Yangon Divisions. Our goal is to develop long term recovery and rehabilitation projects for these rural areas. Unfortunately we continue to find villages on the brink of starvation, so at this point we are still continuing in the rescue/relief phase.
